Lord Of The Launch - Michael Flatley Launches Flatley Irish Whiskey "The Dreamer"
- by Fiona Admin
Michael Flatley may be the latest celebrity to put his name to a whiskey but by no means is this just another celebrity drink.
The eagerly anticipated "The Dreamer" Irish Whiskey is the result of an exciting collaboration between perfectionist Michael Flatley and one of the most talented Irish Master Blenders, Noel Sweeney. Combining their expertise, skills and passion they have created their first in what will be a series of Whiskies releases. They plan to add more to the range which will include some premium releases. The Whiskey was launched at a high profile event in the Mansion House last night and we were honoured to be invited.
On arrival it was evident that this whiskey launch was going to be as flamboyant as the dancer. The red carpet was out, we were greeted by musicians playing the bodhran, the Round Room was illuminated in green, from floor to ceiling and adorned with images of Michael and his whiskey showcased on the walls. The guest list was just as glitzy. Throughout the course of the evening we spotted TV presenter Brian Ormond, former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, Comedian Pat Shortt (das right) and Matt Molloy from the Chieftans. We heard that also present in the room were retired Formula 1 driver David Coulthard, racing commentator Mathew Brumby, British Ambassador to Ireland Paul Johnson and French Ambassador Vincent Guerend. Of course Michaels family were all there to support him too. We also recognised many other faces from the drinks trade including Pat Rigney, John Dillon, Paul Sheehan, Dave Egan, Jean Smullen, Liam Campbell and Martin Moran.
Given the nature of the launch there was an abundance of whiskey available. We were were graciously provided with samples of Flatley's Irish whiskey neat and in the form of Flatley's Espresso Martini, Flatley's Sour No. 4, Daydreamer and Flatley's tipple. We tried each of them all in the name of work.
Later in the evening, we were enlightened further about the whiskey by John Dillon and Pat Rigney from Dalcassian Wines & Spirits. They play an importantl role as distributors, ensuring that this whiskey reaches various establishments such as shops, pubs, restaurants, and hotels. Master Blender Noel Sweeney also shared insights about the whiskey, along with Michael Flatley who expressed his deep connection to Irish Whiskey by honoring previous generations of Flatleys through its name. Following the speeches, Michael took out his flute and live music filled the air for the remainder of the night. After closing time at the bar, some of us ventured to Sheehans on Chatham Street for more whiskey and the finest pints of Guinness in town. This marked the begining of a new chapter but that will have to wait for another time as we haven't really spoke about the whiskey, and who better to tell you about it than the man himself. We received this little card and a complimentary bottle when we were leaving.
