Scottish Whiskey

Scotch whisky, commonly known as whisky or Scotch, is a type of malt or grain whisky produced in Scotland. Initially, all Scotch whisky was crafted from malted barley. In the late 18th century, commercial distilleries started creating whiskies using wheat and rye. A key requirement for Scotch whisky is that it must be aged in oak barrels for a minimum of three years after distillation. The legal minimum alcohol content for bottling is 40% by volume. Scotch whisky can be broken down in to five main categories: single malt, single grain, blended malt, blended grain, and blended Scotch whisky.
