The term "Irish Whiskey" defines whiskey that is exclusively made in Ireland. The word "whiskey" comes from the ancient Gaelic term "uisce beatha" which translates as "water of life". It was back in the 11th century that Irish monks brought the technique of distilling perfumes into Ireland and started distilling the first whiskey.  Irish whiskey is experiencing a real renaissance right now. No longer forgotten or seen as an old person drink but climbing back to its rightful spot as one of the worlds favourite drinks. Exports of Ireland’s native spirit have surged 200% over the last decade, with Jameson leading the charge. New distilleries seem to be arising all over the country, with new brands launched, more single cask offerings from specialist retailers such as our selves, societies that once struggled to get members now having to turn people away and more societies and clubs joining this wonderful community.
