We've always maintained it's a wonderful world of wine, in fact, it's so appealing that being involved in the wine industry seems to be the latest status symbol among celebrities. From actors to golfers to popstars there is a growing number of the rich and famous who either own vineyards or sell their own bottles.
You've probably seen Celebrity wines before, they're omnipresent on the shelves of wine shops and supermarkets in Ireland. It's hard to know how involved these celebrities were or whether they just plonked their name on the label, but we have a few which we feel offer style and substance, are great value for money and have some star qualities of their own that shine through.
The Princess Of Pop celebrated selling her millionth bottle of wine by releasing this Prosecco Rosé. It is from her fruit-driven and expressive "Signature" range. Long before Andrea Bocelli was famous for music, his family was known for making wine. For over 130 years, they have crafted classic Italian wines on their Tuscan farm. Now, in collaboration with the Lovo family in the Veneto, they bring this beautiful sparkler to the rest of the world.
Motivated by their considerable charitable endeavours, the Bocelli’s enjoy few things more than sharing Italian music, food, and wines like this one with their friends. Mineral-laden, and with crisp, beautiful perlage, it’s a kiss of citrus and peach in a glass. Perfect as an aperitif or with a Caprese Salad.
Haling from Rock-Star winemaker Sting's Il Palagio winery in Tuscany, which he and his wife purchased in 1997 comes this charming everyday Chianti named after his song, “When We Dance.” It is produced from mostly (95%) Sangiovese grapes with some local with Canaiolo and Colorino blended in and is organic and biodynamic!!
When we dance is a glorious ruby red colour with aromas of ripe black cherries, sandalwood, cedar and strawberry compote. Texturally even, medium-bodied, smooth and balanced, delicious.
This benchmark Provencal Rosé has become the go-to Rosé for many. Miraval shot to fame when the estate was purchased by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie who also married there. They may no longer be an item but they still own the estate (for the moment). Its winemaking is now done under the guidance of the Perrin family, one of the most celebrated family producers in the Rhône Valley,
The wine has a beautiful pale, petal-pink colour, with bright nuances. On the nose, it has aromas of fresh strawberries and spring flowers. It finishes with a refreshing acidity, minerality and a saline finish.
In 2019, they released a second rosé named 'Studio by Miraval' - a nod to the vineyard's musical roots. See below.
The ‘Studio’ Rosé is a delicious blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle and Tibouren which pays tribute to the many artists, including Pink Floyd, Sting, The Cranberries and AC/DC, who have made tracks at the recording studio on the estate.
This rosé is a very delicate, pale pink colour. The nose is fresh with notes of red berries and stone fruits. The palate has a lovely texture coupled with flavours of apricot, peach and white flowers which are well balanced with bright acidity.
And finally, the creme de la creme, by no means is this just another celebrity wine. The Jolie-Pitt and Perrin families who, since 2012 have made Miraval Rosé a global success story, joined forces with grower Champagne house Pierre Péters. Combining their expertise, skills and passion they have created Fleur de Miraval – the only Champagne house exclusively devoted to Rosé Champagne. This is a very exclusive Rosé Champagne of which there's only 20,000 bottles in circulation worldwide.
On the nose, ‘Fleur de Miraval’ opens with delicate aromas of acacia, freshly picked strawberries and subtle notes of sweet pastries. On the palate it is poised, with bright acidity giving great tension to the wine. The elegant flavours of almond and candied orange peel are well balanced with a saline freshness and a fine, delicate mousse.
