We're Moving.... The Weight Is Over

The Best Worst Kept Secret
After almost two decades on Chatham Street, our tenure will finish next month. We have made many fond memories over the years, from selling and tasting iconic wines, hosting wine tastings, wine fairs and dinners, building relationships with our customers, suppliers and our neighbours and having the privilege of reopening in June 2020 (no explanation needed) that unfortunately, many other businesses did not get to experience. Huge shout out to all of you and our hard-working team for your support; however, for marvellous things to happen, good things must end.
Many of you may know that the history of The Corkscrew dates back to 1978 when Peter Foley opened the first shop on Aughrim Street. He has worked in the wine trade for 45 years, and in that time, he managed the Irish Division of the very prominent Berry Bros and Rudd Wine Merchants. Berry's was a high-quality wine shop with a superb city-centre location in Dublin's former "Weights & Measures" building. Peter & his son Paul decided to embark on a mission to find their own premises in the heart of Dublin, and this is what led to The Corkscrew as you know it opening on Chatham Street in 2004. However, we have outgrown our modest size premises, and finally, after months of searching, we have found somewhere that has everything we need.
Now that we have finally dotted our i's and crossed our t's, we can officially reveal all.
Our "weight" is over; next month, we will be moving to one of Dublin's most iconic and oldest buildings. Built in 1880, The Corkscrew will be taking up residence in the old Dublin Corporation Weights and Measures building on 4 Harry Street, formerly Berry Bros & Rudd. We are ecstatic; this is a huge milestone for us, and we feel this was destined to be. Over the last 15 years, many other retailers have operated out of here and put their own stamp on it, but we intend to return this iconic building and it's fabulous cellar (we're really excited about the cellar) to its former glory. We want more than just a shop; we want to be Dublins destination wine shop. We have our work cut out for us, but we're confident we will be opening our doors very soon, we have a wonderful team already working on the fit-out, and we will keep you updated. We can not wait to see you there.
