Albariño
Albariño or Alvarinho is a high-quality white grape that makes dry elegant wines. Albariño is native to Spain while Alvarinho is grown in Portugal and is used for white wines such as Vinho Verde. Albariño's wine profile is characterized by its invigorating acidity and brininess, complemented by hints of citrus and apricot, it is usually unoaked. Its flavour profile is fabulously fresh with lemon, grapefruit, stone fruit, melon and an interesting wet stone minerality. Albariño makes for a great apéritif before a meal, a suitable companion to fish or white meat dishes, and a great accompaniment to dessert. If you are a Sauvignon Blanc drinker, Albariños also seem to find favour and interest.
Albariño Day is celebrated annually on August 1st
Here at The Corkscrew you will find a small but delicious range of Albariñ/Alvarinho wines from Spain and Portugal, and also an orange one.
