Country / Region: USA/California

Grape type: Cabernet Franc, Merlot

World’s End is the Napa Valley project of Jonathan Maltus, who is the owner of Château Le Dôme in St-Émilion, Bordeaux. Opulent and voluptuously textured, this is his version of what is perhaps, the most classic blend in the World. The Cabernet Franc hails from the slopes and mountains of the Napa Valley bringing smoky tannis. The Merlot emanates from the fog breezes that come into the valley from the Bay.

Product Description

The Cabernet Sauvignon that makes up this wine comes from vineyards in the Monterey County. Its postcard-perfect vineyards, with gorgeous rolling topography, sunshine-filled days, and cool nights produce intense fruit with great color and structure. Its champion varietal is Cabernet Sauvignon; being from Bordeaux it is variety we are intimate with! French inspired winemaking makes this a Californian wine – with a twist! Viticulture: The wine is sourced from a number of different vineyards which all have something in common – they are from cool climate areas. This gives the Cabernet Franc the lift that it needs but also delivers the exceptional ripeness necessary for both the power and complexity of great Cabernet Franc wine. Vinification: Vinification is very similar to those wines that are made in France. After sorting – firstly by bunch and then, after the de-stemmer, grape by grape, a long cold soak before fermentation occurs. The wine undergo their malolactic fermentation in new and one or two year French oak, and are aged in the same oak.

Critics Review

Wine Enthusiast – 91 Points – Editors Choise Cedar, graphite and dried herb form a crucible of flavor and complexity in this well-made wine, priced fairly for the quality. Seamless interwoven tannins support a hefty weight of powerful ripeness defined by sultry layers of dark cherry and dark chocolate.
