Sauvignon

Sauvignon blanc is a green-skinned grape variety originating from Bordeaux, it's recognised worldwide for its fresh and aromatic qualities. Although New Zealand was where Sauvignon Blanc gained worldwide recognition and fame, it has many places to call home and is one of the world’s most popular grape varieties and one of the most widely planted.  Depending on where it's grown and who's producing it, Sauvignon Blanc can be fruit-driven and mouth-watering with citrus flavours and aromas, or more savoury with notes reminiscent of fresh-cut grass.  It's a great food due to the ability of acidity to cut through buttery dishes and creamy sauces, while its citrus notes help it enhance the flavours of a wide range of foods like pasta and fish. It also is a great partner for cheese, and it's pretty delicious on its own.

International Sauvignon Blanc day is annually celebrated on the first Friday of May.

Here at The Corkscrew, we have an extensive variety of Sauvignon styles from California, South Africa, Spain, and Argentina, an exceptional collection of aromatic and refreshing New Zealand Sauvignon, and a diverse range of options from the Loire Valley, Sancerre, and Bordeaux in France.
