Country / Region: Australia/Eden Valley

Grape type: Shiraz

Hill of Grace is surely one of the most evocative phrases in the world of wine. It is a translation from the German ‘Gnadenberg’, a region in Silesia, and the name given to the lovely Lutheran church that overlooks the vineyard. The 4ha single-vineyard shiraz planting is situated at the historic village of Parrot Hill 4km north-west of Henschke Cellars.

The 2015 vintage of one of Australia's most collectable wines is headily scented with aromas of plum and blackberry supported by enticing inflexions of star anise and exotic five-spice. On the palate, it is characteristically full-bodied yet displays exquisite finesse with velveteen tannins and an enchanting texture. Its core of succulent wild berry fruit and liquorice is underpinned by fine, juicy freshness, framed by beautifully seasoned cedary oak; all the hallmarks of a superb wine with a promising future ahead.
This 58th vintage (54th release) of Henschke Hill of Grace is made from 100% hand-picked, old-vine Shiraz.

Henschke 'Hill Of Grace' Eden Valley Shiraz 2017

Product Description

The Henschke family have been making wine at their estate in the Eden Valley since 1868. Fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke took over running the winery in 1979. Together with his viticulturist wife Prue, they have taken their two single vineyards, Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone, and transformed them into two of Australia’s most sought-after wines. Through a combination of great viticulture from Prue, who is at the forefront of re-introducing native plants into their vineyards to improve biodiversity, and winemaking from Stephen, they have built upon their inheritance and turned this traditional producer in to one that is celebrated all around the world.

100 Points - James Suckling

A significant vintage for Hill of Grace, as the last 2015 red to leave the Henschke cellar, and a wine that delivers on every ounce of its promise and then some. The nose is so complex and fragrant with trademark brown spices taking centre stage, amid light espresso, sage leaves, blackberries, cinnamon, anise, orange peel, ripe dark plums, pepper, gun smoke and a gentle, dried-rose edge. The palate has such impressive layers of fine tannin that make an instantly seamless, powerful and focused impression. It has an architectural style with clean lines that build and ascend out of the finish. Long, spiced blackberries and dark plums are extruded in formation with such finesse and power. The acidity holds a torch to the rich, ripe plums and blackberries, illuminating freshness at the finish. A wine that will develop in a very consistent manner and likely to be at its best some 20 years from now. A collector’s dream.
