Food Match: roastturkey, roastchicken

Country / Region: New Zealand/Marlborough

Grape type: Pinot Noir

This stunning new vintage of the attractive Dog Point Pinot Noir. A bright perfumed, supple expression of Marlborough pinot noir from clay hill slopes. The fruit is supported by bright florals of rose and violets with crunchy red berry fruit and dried herb notes. The palate is succulent with alluring red cherry, brown spices and silky fine-boned tannins. This wine has all the makings of a long-lived Marlborough pinot noir and matches perfectly with duck, red meats (particularly venison and lamb), and mushroom dishes.

Winemaking
Hand picked and chilled overnight prior to handsorting. 75% destemmed and 25% whole bunches included. Fermented in small stainless open top fermenters with 100% indigenous yeasts over a period of 3 weeks prior to pressing into French oak barrels for eighteen months (30% new).

VintageA mild spring free of frosts was followed by a cool flowering period in December, which lead to tempered yields for much of the region. This was followed by an extremely dry and warm summer with only 10% of our typical rainfall for the months of January and February. A welcomed burst of rain fell during March, giving vitality to the vines, enabling a healthy and relaxed end to the growing season in early April.

Dog Point Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019

Product Description

Located in Marlborough, New Zealand’s premium wine growing region, Dog Point Vineyard is one of Marlborough's oldest privately owned vineyards. It was established in 2002 by partners, Ivan & Margaret Sutherland, and James & Wendy Healy. After working together at Cloudy Bay, Ivan and James decided to return to a more hands-on approach and establish their own wine label. They produce wines that reflect the experience and passion of the people that make them.Dog Point Vineyard and winery are certified organic under the Biogro New Zealand programme, which is an independent certification process established to promote environmentally friendly, sustainable and responsible practices. These organic philosophies drive their approach to wine making and help ensure the vines are their best for next year’s harvest.Four wines are produced at Dog Point Vineyard - a sauvignon blanc typical of the Marlborough style, ‘Section 94’, a barrel fermented Sauvignon Blanc, a Chardonnay and a Pinot Noir. In every bottle of wine there is impeccable attention to detail and a thoughtful hands-on approach. This focus is expertly partnered with a low interventionist ethos. Fruit is hand-picked from low cropped, estate-grown vines, grown under organic principles, then hand crafted with great care to produce fine wines that are accessible and enjoyable, that will drink well on release or cellar gracefully for many years. All wines are gluten free and vegan friendly.

Critics Review

MICHAEL COOPER NZ 5 STARS
The 2019 vintage is deep ruby, mouthfilling and supple. Full of cellaring potential. It has rich, ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, gently seasoned with nutty oak and excellent vigour and harmony."

CAMERON DOUGLAS 96 POINTS
Dried herb nose and palate, quite savoury and fleshy, crunchy, complex. Ticks a lot of boxes on concentration and finesse. Some fresh and older rose aromas and flavours. Some toasty wood ingress, savoury, dry, lengthy, new and very youthful.
