Giant Steps Yarra Valley, Yarra Valley Chardonnay

An elegant, refined and delicate Chardonnay that is also surprisingly voluptuous. The nose shows classic Yarra characters of fresh melon and intense citrus flavours, underpinned with notes of marzipan and hazelnut. Crisp acidity ensures a refreshing, clean finish.

2020 was a particularly challenging vintage across much of Australia but the Yarra Valley was lucky. In late spring, a few bursts of rain, partnered with cooler temperatures, meant that flowering and fruit set were lower than normal. This led to lower than average yields, primarily driven by tighter, smaller bunches. Contrasting cool temperatures and wet weather in January meant that ripening was drawn out, maximising flavour development and allowing the berries to retain freshness. The final stage to the 2020 season was a classic Indian Summer with long days of mild temperatures and lots of sunshine.
