The Nikka Nine Decades Whisky - Celebrating 90 Years

To commemorate their 90th anniversary, Nikka Whisky launched a special expression called Nikka Nine Decades. This unique blend consists of whiskies distilled over the past nine decades, incorporating more than 50 components from six Nikka-owned distilleries. The blend includes whisky aged since the 1940s. Nikka carefully selected the oldest single malt stocks from Yoichi and Miyagikyo Distilleries, along with whisky from Ben Nevis Distillery in Scotland, new grain whisky from Moji and Satsuma Tsukasa, and aged grain whisky from Nishinomiya. Bottled at 48% ABV, this limited edition release comprises 4000 bottles and is currently available for purchase. We are privileged to have 3 bottles allocated to us which are available here.

The Design

“THE NIKKA” BOTTLE - The base design follows the previous 80th anniversary limited release. A special hand-crafted bottle with new elements for the 90th anniversary.

On the lid there are 9 overlapping nine-square shapes expressing the perfect harmony of whiskies from the 9 decades, with 6-colored checkered background representing the 6 distilleries.

“Edo-bori” carving, a glass carving technique born in Tokyo (former name “Edo” ) which derived from western sandblast carving.

A BOOKLET FULL OF STORIES - A special booklet written in Japanese and English set in the gift box. Introducing each decade’s representative whisky included in the formula, along with historical milestones, challenges, struggles

Nose: A rich apple pie and raisin sweetness with toasty barrel- ageing notes lead into a gentle smokiness and the nostalgic scent of antique furniture. Complex and layered aromas give the impression of standing in the warehouse where the whisky has peacefully slumbered.

Palate: Mellow oak with profound depth forms a base, structuring the spicy cinnamon, roasted nuts, and rich dark chocolate a romas. A subtle bitterness from the peat is balanced by sweet apricot jam and maple syrup, while an overall warmth gives the impression of sitting in front of a fireplace.

Finish: Gentle peat is enveloped by the full body, with sweet and sour notes introducing a pleasant bitterness on a very long finish.
